Fun Landscape Elements to Enjoy This Winter

One of the best things about winter in the Phoenix area is that while most of the country is hunkering down for the bitter cold, we are finally getting to venture outside! Mild Phoenix winters mean plenty of sunshine and bearably cool temperatures.

Of course, winters are still too cold—even in Phoenix—to use an unheated pool, splash pad, or other water feature. But there are plenty of fun elements you can add to your yard that will make the winter months even more enjoyable. Here are some of our favorites.

Putting green

Phoenix is known for its elite golf scene, so why not bring the fun home into your own backyard? Putting greens are a unique and fun addition to any home landscaping, and you can make yours as simple or as elaborate as you want. Plus, they are quick to install and easy to maintain.

Sport court

If you have some extra space in your yard, a sport court is the perfect option. This amenity seems luxury but is probably more realistic than you think. And this fun feature will allow you to get outside and enjoy that winter sunshine. So now the only question is: basketball, tennis, or pickleball?

Fire pit

Fire pits are popular year-round. Whether you’re roasting marshmallows in the summer or cozying up on a cold winter night, you’ll definitely enjoy the ambience of a backyard fire. And with plenty of options ranging from inexpensive prefab pits to high-end custom fireplaces, you’ll be sure to find something to fit your style and budget.

Hammock/swing

In most places in the country, a backyard hammock or swing is the stuff summer dreams are made of. In Phoenix, being outside in the summer is more like a nightmare. Thankfully, the winters make up for it, and you can get plenty of hammock or swing time in during the colder months. (Oh, and if you think you need a huge tree to hang a hammock or swing from, think again! Talk to a designer about other options, including self-standing hammocks or swings you can hang from your porch.)

Outdoor kitchen

Who says your grill can only be used in the summer? As another year-round favorite, an outdoor kitchen can take you from summer poolside barbeques to sophisticated winter cookouts. Grilling is a quick way to feed a crowd and it allows you to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.

These fun landscape elements will allow you to enjoy your yard throughout the beautiful Phoenix winter. We’ll see you outside!
