4 Keys to the Perfect Summer Pool Party

If you have a backyard pool in Arizona (lucky you!), you’ve probably hosted your fair share of pool parties. Most people that live in or around Phoenix will take any chance they get to enjoy some cool water and good company.

Of course, there are more things you can do to make your next summer pool party even more enjoyable for you and your guests. Here are 4 of them.

1. Play it safe.

Safety is always the name of the game when it comes to having fun around water, particularly if there are going to be children present. Make sure you have a pool fence installed that meets all state standards and safety recommendations. And always make sure that parents/caregivers are keeping a close eye on their kids while they’re swimming or playing around the pool. (Tip: if you really want your guests to have an enjoyable and safe experience, consider hiring a professional, private lifeguard for your pool party. The peace of mind may be worth the expense!)

Additionally, be aware of other hazards such as heat stroke, sunburn, and dehydration, all of which are very real risks due to the dry desert heat and bright sun.

2. Have games/toys for the pool.

Colorful pool floats, pool noodles, foam water sprayers, diving rings, etc.: These are all extremely inexpensive ways to add color and entertainment to your pool. You could also consider installing a basketball hoop if you don’t already have one, or even adding a pool slide.

You might also want to plan some organized games for your guests. Think: relay races, cannonball competitions, underwater treasure hunts, or obstacle courses.

3. Have options outside the pool.

Some adults won’t want to swim. Some children won’t be able to swim. And some of your swimming guests might just need a break every now and then. Make sure you have other entertainment options available to the people outside of the pool, like yard games, food/drink, or a movie playing. Be sure to provide plenty of shade and/or misters to help keep things cool.

4. Focus on finishing touches.

It’s one thing to have friends over to swim. It’s another if you have an organized party that feels like an event. Take your pool party to the next level with small finishing touches that will wow your guests from start to finish. This includes things like:

  • Poolside lighting (for an evening party)
  • A curated summer playlist
  • Party decorations
  • Candles/tiki torches to keep bugs away (if that is a problem in your yard)
  • A backdrop and props for fun photos
  • A signature cocktail/mocktail for your guests to enjoy

These 4 tips can take your pool parties from run-of-the-mill to top-of-the-line. Once you have these things in place, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your pool right along with your guests!
